Gay and Lesbian in Mean Girls

In Mean Girls, the main character's best friends are gay and lesbian; two are themselves used to be best friends before Cady move in.
In the movie, she becomes best friends with Janis and Damian -- "outsiders" marked by their appearance -- Janis looks little gothic and pierced, and Damian is overweight and feminine. THe movie portrays them negatively. Janis's lovingly called "too gay too function" by Janis; when Cady repeats this phrase to the Plastics, they make fun of Janis and she realizes that she has betrayed her friends. Janis is rumored to be a lesbian -- something so terrible as to only be whispered, and which she tries to hide from Cady, who learns the story from Regina. Everyone in school believes Janis to be a lesbian. The film never challenges this assumption that to be lesbian is to be outcast, unlovable, unspeakable even. People throws at the homosexual feminine guy who sings at the talent show and the gothic pierced artistic lesbian is so disruptive as to have to be erased as a lesbian at the film's end. Neither Janis and Damian show any romantic potential with the main character.
Therefore, this movie is a stereotypical movie that portray the homosexuality negatively where their political context and realities are erased. This is contradict that most modern movie started to portray them in positive sight since the gay's right movement in 1970s.
