After our class discussion this week regarding the looks that men are taking on and the looks that women are taking on, it left me thinking. This week I was with a group of friends and a girl wore her boyfriend's jeans to lunch because she didnt bring clothes for the next day. No, she did not wear "boyfriend jeans" she wore her boyfriend's jeans. Our friends engaged in a funny conversation of how it wouldn't be seen normal if our boyfriends wore our jeans however it seems to me that they in fact are.
Now more than ever, male celebrities and the hipster youth are wearing skin tight jeans and spending more time on their hair than their girlfriends would. Women, myself included have begun to wear "boyfriend jeans" and "boyfriend jackets." Another look that has come into style in the past couple of years, the grunge look which consists of spending money to look like you dont spend it. A very enthusiastic supporter of this style if Ashley Olsen. As mentioned in a popular blog, Fashionista, "Vera Wang talks about wearing YSL’s Le Smoking jackets two sizes too big, and Chris Benz always wears sport coats too small, and maybe it’s because they’re super small, but the aforementioned MK and Ashley have made wearing things that oversized or undersized a way of life" with the price tags a little heavier than usual. The way we dress and carry ourselves has become more than just a way of life or something regarding taste, it has become a culture.
