Dramas

I enjoy watching dramas, especially Korean ones. I definitely enjoyed American dramas including gossip girls, The O.C, prison break, sex and the city, and etc. However, American dramas are quite different from Korean’s. In Korean dramas, most of female characters are described mercenary. They are born poor and live with plights, so they dream if they marry to millionaire and become like Cinderella princess. Their desire for money is nakedly portrayed on dramas. One particular drama describes that a poor girl living in countryside comes up to the capital and gets a cosmetic surgery in order to become pretty and lives like a city person. Becoming beautiful, she starts to work. Her income is very low and still is hard to live with abundance. Thus, she decides to allure a president of her company, only for getting his money. After the continuous temptation, the president also falls into her. However, she never loves him; she loves his property. After he realizes he is only used as a tool for her, he decides to separate from her. However, after their separation, she feels very lonely and misses him; she realizes she has actually loved him. She knows love is much more powerful and beautiful than money. She then comes back to him and confesses that she doesn’t need any of his property and needs only him, and their love starts again. Like in this drama, the female character is described as such person who desires to be pretty, rich, and the center of attention. And the male character is described as an authoritative and rich person. Thus, there’s a stereotype that women usually need men’s power to become as powerful as men are.
