Homosexual people in Korean media

http://news.nate.com/view/20100306n04362
This is a news about homosexual people. Many of you can not read because it is written in Korean, but basically it says that homosexual people in Korea are suffering from the stereotypes toward them. They have to lie they have boy(girl) friend, and they can not 'come out' because if they do, they would be disadvantaged from their work. And the news tells us about many other disadvantages to homosexual people in the society.

I do not have much knowldege about gay and lesbian, because my country is not that open to those cultures. Of course, right now the society is more opened to homosexual people than when I was young, but still, it is much conservative according to the news.
Korean especially can not endure the 'difference'. If someone is different from them, they regard others 'wrong'. This is becuase the society is conservative. Although the condition is getting better and better, still the society is closed compared to America.

There are two soap operas aired right now that gay men appear. I think this is the first time that gay men appear in the TV. There are many films that cover gay men but TV has not until now. So, appearing gay men in TV is a remarkable change that the society is moving toward to understand homosexual people. Indeed, one of the writer of the drama decided to cover gay men because she wanted to break social stereotypes of homosexual people. We don't know whether those dramas would be sucessful or not, becuase they started very recently, but so far, so good.
